Rash guards

A rashguard is like a second skin for combat sports, fitness, and CrossFit: it protects against scrapes, keeps your muscles warm, and wicks away sweat. Here at Sport Zone, we've selected a range of short and long-sleeve rashguards—for men, women, and kids—featuring flatlock seams and durable sublimated graphics. You'll find MMA tops, BJJ no-gi shirts, and compression shirts for combat sports from SZ Fighters and our partner brands, in sizes from XS to XXL. If you're hesitating between models, I can help with a precise recommendation based on your training needs.

How to Choose a Rashguard — The Complete Guide

Fabrics and Density

A quality rashguard is typically made from a blend of polyester and elastane or spandex, which provides 4-way stretch, quick-drying properties, and a shape that won't lose its form. Look for a density of around 180–220 gsm for fitness and CrossFit, and 200–240 gsm for wrestling, BJJ, and MMA for higher durability. Sublimated graphics won't crack or irritate the skin. An antibacterial coating helps fight odors, and a UV filter is a plus for training outdoors or water activities.

Fit and Compression

A rashguard should fit snugly, but without cutting in or restricting your breathing. The compression supports blood circulation and stabilizes the muscles. Look for raglan sleeves for freedom of movement in the shoulders, flatlock seams to prevent chafing, and an extended hem, sometimes with a silicone grip, to keep it from riding up during grappling or sparring. For MMA, a long-sleeve design is preferred for better protection, while for fitness and CrossFit, a short sleeve is often chosen for better ventilation.

Use Cases: BJJ, MMA, CrossFit, and Fitness

For no-gi BJJ, a more durable material and tighter compression are crucial to withstand pulling and friction. In MMA sparring, a rashguard protects against scrapes from the cage and mat. In CrossFit and fitness, it helps with moisture management and maintains a stable body temperature. If you're looking for a versatile model, choose a medium density with long sleeves for grappling and short sleeves for strength and conditioning. A rashguard with a smooth outer layer reduces your opponent's grip in no-gi.

Size and Length

Measure your chest circumference and compare it with the size chart. If you're between two sizes and training BJJ or MMA, the smaller size usually provides better compression. Length is important: a longer hem prevents it from riding up during takedowns and burpees. A men's rashguard is wider in the shoulders; a women's rashguard has a tailored cut with more room in the bust and hips; kids' models have a shorter length and softer elasticity.

Care and Maintenance

Wash at 30°C (86°F), inside out, without fabric softener, and never tumble dry. This will preserve the elastic fibers and sublimation for longer. Rinse immediately after training, especially after contact with chlorine or salt water. Air dry, away from direct sunlight.

Men's, Women's, and Kids' Models

Men's models often feature a wider shoulder construction and a longer torso. Women's models are anatomically cut to prevent bunching and stay in place during intense movements. Kids' rashguards are softer and have moderate compression to avoid being too restrictive. If you need versatility, you can look for a unisex fit, but for optimal comfort, choose a gender-specific model.

Practical advice: if you train 2–3 times a week, get at least two rashguards and rotate them; for BJJ and MMA, opt for a tighter fit and a density over 200 gsm; for CrossFit and fitness, a lighter fabric will do.
