Why you need carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the body's fuel. Without them, you have no strength, no endurance. A client comes to me, trains 4 times a week. He wonders why he has no energy. I ask him what he eats after training – nothing. That's why, that's where the problem is.
How I choose
After training, you need fast carbohydrates. To restore glycogen in your muscles. I recommend between 0.8 and 1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight. That is, if you are 80 kg, you need 64 to 96 grams. It is very important what kind of carbohydrates these are. Maltodextrin has a high glycemic index, it is absorbed quickly. Dextrose too. Waxy maize is another good solution, it has lower osmolality and passes through the stomach faster. For energy loading before a competition, you can take more carbohydrates for 2-3 days, but again, quality ones. I try to avoid too much sugar, and rather complex carbohydrates that are released gradually.
