Green Tea

Green tea extract, dosed at 500 mg, demonstrates a significant increase in thermogenesis by up to 4% in physically active individuals. Catechins, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), are the main active compounds responsible for its antioxidant potential. These polyphenols neutralize free radicals generated during intense workouts, aiding recovery and reducing oxidative stress. Practical observations show that regular intake improves lipid metabolism, which is important for athletes aiming for optimal body composition. A dose of 250-500 mg EGCG daily, divided into two intakes, is effective for most people.

In addition to its antioxidant properties, green tea is a source of L-theanine – an amino acid that modulates brain waves, inducing a state of calm alertness. This can be beneficial for athletes who need improved concentration without the nervousness often associated with high doses of caffeine. Extracts standardized to 90% polyphenols and 45% EGCG offer the greatest bioavailability and effectiveness. Taking it before a workout can increase endurance, and after – accelerate recovery. For optimal results, consume it between meals or 30 minutes before physical activity.
