  • Dosage: The experimental group took 500 mg of standardized Rhaponticum carthamoides extract daily (with a 95% ecdysterone concentration), split into two doses with food.
  • Duration: 8 weeks, with a controlled training and nutrition plan for all participants.
  • Measured parameters: 1-repetition max (1RM) on the squat, bench press, and deadlift; lean body mass (LBM) and body fat percentage (measured with calipers and bioimpedance); subjective assessment of recovery.

Results:

  • Increase in strength (1RM): The group taking Leuzea showed an average increase in total tonnage (squat + bench press + deadlift) of 11.4%. For comparison, the placebo group noted only a 2.1% improvement. The greatest progress was seen in the squat (+14%).
  • Change in body composition: The Leuzea participants gained an average of +1.9 kg of lean muscle mass, while reducing their body fat by an average of -1.3%. In the placebo group, the changes were statistically insignificant (+0.3 kg LBM, -0.2% fat).
  • Recovery: Over 78% of the participants in the experimental group (11 out of 14 people) reported a significant reduction in muscle soreness (DOMS) and a feeling of 'freshness' before the next workout as early as the second week of intake.

Scenario 1: Strength Athlete in a Plateau

Profile: Dimitar, a 31-year-old powerlifter. He has been training for 6 years. For 4 months, he has been 'stuck' at a 150 kg bench press. He follows a good regimen, takes creatine and whey protein, and sleeps 7-8 hours, but his progress has stalled.

Goal: Break through the strength plateau and increase maximal strength.

Recommendation: An 8-week 'attacking' cycle with Leuzea. We start with a dose of 500 mg of ecdysterone daily, divided into two doses (250 mg in the morning with breakfast and 250 mg about 45 minutes before training with the pre-workout meal). From the fifth week, we increase the dose to 750 mg daily (3x250 mg) to create a new stimulus. We combine this with 5g of creatine monohydrate daily and maintain a high protein intake (2.2 g/kg of body weight). Goal: Maximize the anabolic response from food and training, improve nutrient partitioning.

Recommendation: A longer, 12-week cycle with Leuzea, focused on consistency. The dosage is stable – 500 mg of ecdysterone daily (2x250 mg, always with food). Dosage for athletes 300-1000 mg of standardized ecdysterone per day. For most purposes, 500 mg is the golden mean. Doses above 1000 mg do not show significantly better results and are not economically justified.
Time of intake Always with food to improve absorption and avoid potential stomach discomfort. Split the daily dose into 2-3 intakes. One of the intakes should ideally be 30-60 minutes before a workout with a meal rich in carbohydrates and protein.
Cycling Cyclical intake is recommended to maintain the body's sensitivity. A classic cycle is 8-12 weeks of intake, followed by a 4-week break. This is not related to the suppression of endogenous hormones (as with steroids), but to the general principle of the body's adaptation to any external substance.

Pitfalls and Myths about Leuzea

The popularity of Leuzea and ecdysterone has led to the spread of many half-truths and outright myths. Let's debunk the most common ones.

Myth #1: 'Leuzea is a natural steroid and is dangerous.'

Reality: This is the biggest and most dangerous misconception. Although ecdysterone has 'sterone' in its name and a steroidal structure, it does not interact with androgen receptors in the human body. This means it does not cause any of the side effects associated with anabolic steroids: it does not suppress the body's own testosterone production, does not cause gynecomastia, acne, or hair loss. Its mechanism of action is completely different and much safer, focused on direct stimulation of protein synthesis.

Myth #2: 'The more, the better. I need grams of ecdysterone per day.'

Reality: This idea comes from some early research or from the desire of manufacturers to sell more. The truth is that the receptors with which ecdysterone interacts have a saturation capacity. As our internal study and other scientific research have shown, doses in the range of 500-750 mg of standardized extract yield excellent results. Taking 2000-3000 mg does not lead to 4 times better results, but simply to more expensive urine. The quality of the extract (the standardization percentage) is many times more important than the gross amount.

Myth #3: 'I'll feel the effect from the first dose, like a pre-workout booster.'

Reality: Leuzea is an adaptogen, not a stimulant. Its effects are cumulative. Don't expect a rush of energy 30 minutes after taking it. The first sensations are usually related to better recovery and less muscle soreness, which become noticeable after 1 to 2 weeks of consistent use. The increase in strength and visible changes in musculature become apparent after 3-4 weeks. Patience and consistency are key.

Myth #4: 'All Leuzea/Ecdysterone products are the same.'

Reality: This is far from the truth. The market is flooded with products with huge differences in quality. One product might contain 500 mg of ground Leuzea root (with less than 1% ecdysterone), while another contains 250 mg of an extract standardized to 95% ecdysterone. The second one will be many times more potent. Always look for the words 'standardized extract' and the specific percentage of 20-Hydroxyecdysterone on the label.

When NOT to take Leuzea (Contraindications)

Although Leuzea is extremely safe for most people, there are a few groups who should be cautious or avoid it:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: There is a lack of sufficient research on the safety of Leuzea in pregnant and breastfeeding women, so it should be avoided by default.
  • Autoimmune diseases: As Leuzea can stimulate the immune system, people with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, etc., should consult their doctor before taking it. Theoretically, it could worsen symptoms.
  • Hormone-sensitive conditions: Although ecdysterone does not act like a hormone, extreme caution and mandatory consultation with a specialist are recommended for conditions such as breast, uterine, or prostate cancer.
  • Blood clotting issues: There is limited data suggesting that ecdysterones may slightly affect platelet function. People taking anticoagulants (blood-thinning medications) or with congenital blood clotting disorders should avoid Leuzea.

Leuzea is not a magic pill. It is a powerful scientific tool that, in the hands of an informed and disciplined athlete, can unlock a new level of physical potential.
